Fitting a shower seal yourself
Fitting a shower seal yourself: you can do it with the right expertise
Would you like to fit a new shower seal for your glass shower yourself? That’s no problem at all with the expert advice from the professionals – you can find it at www.duschdichtungsprofile.de.
A glass shower enclosure is a real eye-catcher in the bathroom and remains a popular trend. However, limescale and soap or shampoo residue take their toll on the profiles every day, so they need to be replaced from time to time. You can easily fit a shower seal yourself – if you know how. We’d be happy to help you with that.
Step by step to success – fitting seals
Firstly, you should determine which replacement seal is the right one for your shower. There are many options and variations available, including vertical and horizontal profiles, or magnetic sealing strips that provide a particularly tight seal.
If you’re not sure which shower seal is right for you, look for one based either on the shape of the shower or the position of the profile. We’ve also set up a so-called configurator in our online shop for shower seal profiles. Simply enter the profile’s details and you’ll be automatically guided through the process right up to placing your order.
Do-it-yourself: Replacing a profile
Replacing a faulty or worn shower seal profile is often much easier than you might think. The seals are usually simply slotted into place, so you can simply pull them out. The new seal will generally not be the right length and will need to be cut to size. This, too, can be done quickly with the right tools. When cutting it to size, use a craft knife or a saw blade, using the old seal as a guide. Now simply slide the profile into place – if this doesn’t work straight away, you can lightly dampen the glass with clean water. We’ve also posted a video in our online shop – you can watch it there to see exactly how it’s done.
✔ To clean and maintain your new shower seal, please use the products available in our range, amongst others. However, it is always important not to use harsh cleaning products.

Frequently asked questions about fitting a shower seal
Can I fit a shower seal myself?
Yes, many shower seal profiles can be replaced without professional help. The profiles are often simply clipped onto the edge of the glass and can therefore be removed and replaced with a new seal.
How do I find the right replacement gasket before fitting?
Key factors include the position of the seal, the shape of the shower and the type of profile required. As well as vertical and horizontal sealing profiles, there are also magnetic closing strips, for example. The configurator will help you make your selection.
How do I remove an old shower seal?
Shower seal profiles that have been clipped into place can usually be carefully peeled away from the edge of the glass. The edge of the glass should then be cleaned of limescale, soap residue and dirt before the new seal is fitted.
How do I cut a new shower seal to the correct length?
If the new seal profile is too long, the old seal can be used as a guide for the required length. Depending on the nature of the profile, it can be shortened using, for example, a suitable craft knife or a saw blade. Ensure that the cut is clean and straight.
What can I do if the new shower seal is difficult to fit?
If the seal profile does not slide easily onto the edge of the glass, the glass can be lightly moistened with clean water. This often makes it easier to fit the seal. Additional aids are not usually required for this.
