Acrylic half-round rods – transparent splash guards for the shower

An acrylic half-round bar for the shower acts as a splash guard and water deflector. The transparent profile is fitted to the floor or the shower tray and helps to keep shower water within the designated shower area. Such a splash guard can be particularly useful in floor-level and walk-in showers, where water would otherwise flow unhindered into the adjoining bathroom area.
We offer transparent acrylic half-round bars in various sizes. You can choose between a profile that is 8 mm wide and 4 mm high, and a larger version that is 10 mm wide and 5 mm high.
Thanks to the transparent acrylic, the profiles blend discreetly into modern glass showers and are visually much less obtrusive than many traditional splash guards.

Splash guards for walk-in and floor-level showers

Open walk-in showers give the bathroom a modern look. However, due to their open design, water can spread more easily beyond the actual shower area.
A semi-circular acrylic bar, acting as a splash guard, forms a small raised edge on the floor. Water running off is retained and channelled back into the shower area. This can help to ensure that less water ends up on the adjoining bathroom floor, particularly in the case of floor-level showers.
The acrylic semi-circular bar can generally be used in shower cubicles, glass showers, as well as floor-level and accessible shower areas.

Acrylic half-round rod, 4 or 5 mm thick – which size is the right one?

When making your selection, you should pay particular attention to the required height of the splash guard and which shower seal is to be used in combination with the profile.
The 8 × 4 mm acrylic half-round bar is 8 mm wide and 4 mm high. It is available in lengths of 100 cm.
The 10 × 5 mm acrylic half-round bar is 10 mm wide and 5 mm high. This profile is available in lengths of 100 cm and 200 cm.
Which variant is more suitable depends on the specific shower and, in particular, on the shower seal used.

Acrylic half-round bar used as a stop for shower seals

The acrylic half-round bar can be used not only as a water deflector but also as a stop for a sealing profile on the underside of a shower door.
The sealing lip of the shower seal should slightly overlap the acrylic bar. For the profiles on offer, it is recommended that the sealing lip extends approximately 2 to 3 mm beyond the acrylic half-round bar.
This is how the shower seal and splash guard work together: the seal directs the water inwards, whilst the acrylic half-round bar additionally prevents water from running out of the shower area from underneath or behind the sealing lip.
For the bottom edge of a shower door, we also stock various
sliding lip seals.

The position of the splash guard should be carefully determined before gluing it in place. With a glass door in particular, care must be taken to ensure that the lower shower seal sits correctly on the acrylic profile.
The sealing lip should slightly overlap the acrylic half-round bar so that the water running off is directed back into the shower area as reliably as possible.
You should therefore check the position with the shower door closed before final installation and then mark out the course of the profile.
If you still need a suitable seal for the underside of your shower door, you can use our configurator for shower seal profiles.
